- Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a source of information for and as a facilitator of communication between parents, teachers and staff members.
- Enroll and orient new students and families.
- Support special needs students as well as students with exceptional abilities.
- Serve as building assessment coordinators.
- Coordinates communication between the Building Intervention Team and general education teachers.
- Teach classroom counseling lessons on a wide range of developmentally appropriate topics including goal setting, communication, technology use, character education and peer conflict.
- Conduct several “Parent Coffee with Counselors” for 4/5 parents and for 6-8 parents throughout the year.
- Assist in transition activities for students entering the upper elementary, the middle school and those moving on to the high school.
- Monitor academic progress and facilitating the Maximizing of Academic Potential for all students.
- Provide information and referrals to parents on outside personal and academic resources and support services available.
- Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
- Consult with students, parents, teachers and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students
- Facilitate the development of Educational Development Plans for all students.
- Provide individual counseling and group guidance to help students cope effectively personal, social, academic, career, and family concerns.
- REQUIREMENTS
- Native Speaker
- Master or bachelor degree in education or relevant certificate
- Effective communication skills, relationship building skills
- Instructional techniques; human behaviour, development, and skill performance
- Ability to build effective relationships with students understanding that this is at the core of a successful student/teacher relationship
- Ability to problem solves and manages priorities.
